Meet Dr. McKenzie Clemens
Dr. McKenzie Clemens was born in Lowville in 1988. She attended Lowville Academy and graduated from LACS in 2006. McKenzie earned a National Merit Scholarship, which she used to attend Alfred University in Alfred, NY. She was in the Honors Program at Alfred University and completed research in organic chemistry including writing a thesis on designing antimicrobial compounds with activity against parasites during her senior year.
In 2010 McKenzie earned Bachelors of the Arts degrees in Chemistry and Biology and was accepted to the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine on Long Island.
While at Stony Brook University, Dr. Clemens continued to work in the research lab. Now her research focused on compounds to reduce the inflammation associated with periodontal (gum) disease. This research showed the link between oral inflammation with systemic inflammation and was published and presented at dental research conferences in San Diego, CA and Tampa, FL. She also participated in outreach trips to treat underserved people both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Clemens earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2014 with honors in research.
Dr. Clemens completed a two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY where she had experience with general dentistry including placing dental implants and treating patients with complex medical conditions. After completing her residency, Dr. Clemens practiced dentistry as an associate for the 1st Advantage Dental Group in Latham, NY from 2016 to 2020. In 2020 she moved back to Lowville and began practicing as an associate for Dr. Sam Pominville at Advanced Dental Care. In 2024 Dr. Clemens completed the Dawson Academy Core Curriculum studying occlusion and the TMJ (jaw joint). In 2025 she became certified to provide Invisalign clear aligner therapy (invisible braces).
Dr. Clemens practices evidence based dentistry. She strives to properly and fully diagnose all of her patient's oral health conditions and to show patients all of the options they have available for treatment. Dr. Clemens believes it is very important for patients to understand what treatment they need and comfortable with the treatment they receive.
